Jazz Legend, Toledo Native Jon Hendricks Passes Away At 96

NEW YORK, New York - Jazz legend and Toledo native Jon Hendricks passed away Wednesday at the age of 96.

Hendricks' career began at the age of seven and by his teenage years he was singing with another Toledo jazz legend, Art Tatum. 

He is best known for his work in the vocal trio Lambert, Hendricks and Ross. The group released ten albums between 1957 and 1964. He recorded another 12 solo records and collaborated with Thelonious Monk, Art Blakely, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck and The Manhattan Transfer. 

He returned to Toledo in 2000 to teach at the University of Toledo. Hendricks also received an Honorary Doctorate of the Performing Arts from the school.
