Harassment stemming from social media has forced a Midland man, known as ‘Mad Dog’, to seek police help.
The Echo newspaper reported that Adrian, who has been a bare-footed, bike-riding ‘icon’ on Perth roads for years, has been subjected to harassment which local police have described as “borderline stalking”.
It’s become so unbearable for Adrian that OIC Senior Sergeant Jason Longhorn warned that Midland Police would press charges against anyone harassing him.
“He’s come to us because it’s reached the point where people are showing up at his house, that’s trespassing,” Snr Sgt Longhorn told The Echo.
“We also obtained footage of an incident where he had to hide in a truck bay because a car was circling him, trying to get a rise out of him.”
Snr Sgt Longhorn said that Adrian came to Midland Police “quite distressed” because he’s aware that if people continue to provoke him, and he breaks, it’s likely he’ll be the one that gets in trouble.
“[Adrian is] a bit unit, a gentle giant but I don’t want someone coming in here crying because they’ve poked the bear and come off second-best,” Snr Sgt Longhorn said.
His notoriety has become the subject of several social media pages, including
The Echo reported that Adrian does not receive any remuneration from sales, despite t-shirts selling for $39.95.
On Tuesday, popular satire site The Bell Tower Times posted that they stopped referencing Adrian a while ago after being contacted by his family.
“[They] politely informed me that the attention he gets disturbs him and people were harassing him for footage.”
