Watch Sam Smith Bare His Soul To An Empty Theater In 'One Last Song' Video

You know Sam Smith's new video for "One Last Song" is just a music video because the theater is empty -- that would never happen in real life. Hoards of fans occupy every inch they can when Smith (who is headlining arenas on a world tour next year) gives voice to his pain and, in turn, theirs.

"One Last Song" is about an ex of Smith's who will no longer directly communicate with him, so to get through the message he needs to get off his chest, he wrote this song. And if lyrics such as "Here's one last song for you/ And I hope it makes you feel/ And I hope it makes you burn/ And I hope it reminds you of how much it hurt" aren't enough, the visual for the breakup track exudes the goodbye in an affecting way.

The video begins by panning Smith from behind, silhouetting him and some backup dancers while rain falls. He's only actually on the stage for a moment before taking off to walk around the theater while crooning the tune. Smith travels through the back hallways, up the stairs, past beautiful bouquets before arriving on the building's roof where he is in the rain again -- and finishes with a stare-down of the camera to really put the nail in the coffin.

Smith's sophomore album The Thrill Of It All was released on Nov. 3 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Who knows if the man "One Last Song" was written for will peek, but you can watch the full video below:
