At least 12 people have been killed, including one child as young as one-year-old, in a 4-alarm apartment fire in the Bronx Thursday night according to New York City Mayor's press secretary. At least 170 firefighters are on the scene at the five-story apartment building.

"This is the worst fire tragedy we have seen in this city, in at least a quarter-century. Based on the information we have now, this will rank as one of the worst losses of life to a fire in many years," de Blasio said in a press conference at the scene.

The actual toll is still uncertain. An earlier tweet from the NYFD indicated that at least 15 people have been injured by the fire.

Fighting the fire has been difficult as temperature are currently in the teens in New York, with the windchill making it feel like single digits. The fire has been extinguished, but firefighters are still on the scene, clearing the building and checking for survivors. The mayor warned that more deaths may be coming.

Patients have been taken to local hospitals to deal with their injuries.

At least 15 people seriously injured in 4-alarm fire at 5 story building at 2363 Prospect Ave near E 187 St. Started on third floor just before 7pm. Patients being taken to Jacobi Medical Center and St. Barnabas Hospital. Over 160 firefighters on-scene.
