Paul Manafort Sues Justice Department, Robert Mueller
January 3, 2018
Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort is suing the U.S. Department of Justice, FBI Special Counsel Robert Mueller and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. The suit was filed on Wednesday (January 3) in U.S. District Court in Washington, DC, where Manafort and another Trump campaign aide are charged.
The Manafort lawsuit alleges Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Mueller have unlawfully exceeded the authority allowed under the law governing special counsel appointments. The lawsuit contends that the order Rosenstein signed to appoint Mueller "exceeds the scope of Mr. Rosenstein's authority to appoint special counsel as well as specific restrictions on the scope of such appointments."
