Senate Reconvenes in Rare Sunday Session

January 21, 2018

The Senate returns to session today in an effort to get a budget passed and the government reopened for business.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McDonnell is vowing to hold a vote on a compromise measure to fund the government.

A scheduled vote on a temporary funding bill would come in the wee hours of the morning.

The Kentucky Republican Kentucky says Democrats "want to keep the government shut down for hundreds of millions of Americans until we finish negotiating on the subject of illegal immigration."

Republicans have maintained no talks on DACA legislation until Democrats give them enough votes to reopen the government.

Democrats say they have to have an answer on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program since those affected could face deportation beginning in early March.
