The Queen of R&B Soul can now be introduced as Oscar-nominated Mary J. Blige

Not only did the songstress cop her first ever Oscar nomination, but Blige has also become a double nominee! That's right. MJB has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her Mudbound role, as well as Best Original Song for “Mighty River.” The artist actually wrote and sang this track for the film.

Mudbound is a movie that was released on Netflix in November 2017. Dee Rees directed the project. It shows the lives of two families, one black and one white, and how they both try to survive in a rural part of Mississippi during the Jim Crow era.

“It’s very empowering. I feel like I’m part of something so incredible right now because we’re taking our place in the world,” Blige previously told Entertainment Tonight about working on female-led Mudbound. “We are equals.”

We're rooting for you, queen!
