Now that the Black Hood has been vanquished, Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead are moving on to much more important tasks. Namely: the school musical. According to Entertainment Weekly, Riverdale will do a musical episode based on Carrie: The Musical. It may seem random for the teen drama to do a musical episode at first, but considering the fact that many of the characters tend to break out in song anyway it totally makes sense. Archie just wants to be a ~serious~ musician, okay?!
The episode will be based around Riverdale High's production of Carrie: The Musical because what other musical would these murder obsessed teen choose to put on? The best news, according to Entertainment Weekly, is that queen Cheryl Blossom will star as Carrie in the musical. A vengeful, blood thirsty witch is truly the role Cheryl was born to play.
In addition to Cheryl taking center stage, Kevin Keller will be directing Riverdale High's production while Jughead shoots a behind-the-scenes documentary about the musical. (All high school's shoot documentaries about their musicals, right? Thought so.) And since this is Riverdale we're talking about after all, the parents are obviously going to be meddling in their children's lives. The Lodge family is producing the musical, while Fred Andrews will be supplying all the materials for the sets. If that doesn't spell disaster, I don't know what does.
Archie will play Tommy Ross, Betty will play Sue Snell, Veronica play Chris Hargensen, and Jughead, in addition to his documentary, will play The Beak. Get your milkshakes ready, River Vixens, this is sure to be a wild ride. Riverdale’s musical episode will premiere Wednesday, April 18 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the CW.
