Police arrested two 12-year-old students for cyberbullying after a 12-year-old girl hanged herself two weeks ago. According to ABC 7, the two children admitted to police that they had started vicious rumors about Gabriella Green, both online and in person. In one shocking instance, the young boy went as far as to encourage her to kill herself.

Police discovered the cyberbullying while investigating Green's suicide. They combed through social media accounts and examined multiple cellphones during the investigation. They were able to identify two main culprits behind the bullying.

Police spoke with the two children, a boy, and a girl, about what transpired in the weeks leading to Green taking her own life. The girl told authorities she started "rumors of the victim having sexually transmitted diseases, vulgar name-calling … and threats to ‘expose’ personal and sensitive details of the victim’s life."

The boy told authorities he had spoken with Green online after an attempted suicide attempt. She had told him she had tried to hang herself and showed him the marks on her neck. Instead of alerting an adult and trying to get her help, he encouraged her to kill herself.

"(He) responded by saying something to the effect of, 'If you're going to do it, just do it,' and ended the call," police wrote.

Police said their "investigation did not reveal that the cyberbullying caused the girl’s death, just that it was happening in the days and weeks leading up to it."
