This Word Will Literally Get You Kicked Out of a New York City Bar

Say the magic word and you'll get kicked out of this New York City bar.

In what is surely the first shot in the coming Grammar Wars, The Continental Bar in New York has posted a sign banning all use of the word "Literally."

As the sign explains, staff will not take an offense lightly, giving patrons only 5 minutes to finish their drinks should say the word-that-shall-not-be-named.

"Sorry but if you say the word "LITERALLY" inside Continental you have 5 minutes to finish your drink and then your must leave. If you actually start a sentence with "I literally" you must leave immediately!!!"

The owner goes on to say the word is literally overused these days and even referenced the Kardashians as the culprits behind the widespread use.

"This is the most overused, annoying word in the English language and we will not tolerate it. STOP KARDASHIANISM NOW!"

Owner Trigger Smith told Grub Street that the sign has been up for the last few days, but only recently went viral.

“Since it’s English, it’s probably happening in England, and maybe Australia,” Smith tells Grub Street. “I had a woman from Miami the other night tell me it’s happening down there. And it’s not just millennials,” he said. “Now you hear newscasters using ‘literally’ every three minutes on the Sunday news shows. What’s annoying is people aren’t even aware they’re saying it. How could you be so unaware of your words that it’s coming out every couple minutes?”

If you're planning on heading on down to the bar for a drink, you'd best try and eliminate the word from your vocabulary, otherwise you may figuratively find yourself kicked out of The Continental.
