Chris Cornell's family appeared on the red carpet Sunday night at the 60th annual Grammy Awards at Madison Square Garden for the first time since the iconic Soundgarden and Audioslave singer's death last May.

Cornell's widow Vicky Cornell (right) and the couple's daughters, Toni (middle) and Lili (left), wore matching black dresses to the awards show. The couple's other son, Christopher, did not attend.

Chris Cornell's death took his family and generations of rock fans by surprise and lead to an outpouring tributes from all corners of the music world.

The singer died in Detroit last spring in what police ruled suicide by hanging. The 52-year-old was found after a concert in his hotel room by a security guard with an exercise band wrapped around his neck.

It was later revealed that Cornell had several prescription and over-the-counter drugs in his system at the time of his death, including a powerful anti-anxiety medication that had been prescribed to him.

Cornell's family believes the drugs contributed to the singer's state of mind prior to his suicide.

"Many of us who know Chris well noticed that he wasn't himself during his final hours and that something was very off," Vicky Cornell wrote in a statement after Chris' toxicology report was released. "We have learned from this report that several substances were found in his system. After so many years of sobriety, this moment of terrible judgment seems to have completely impaired and altered his state of mind."

Toni Cornell alongiwth with One Republic later paid tribute to Chris Cornell with a stirring rendition of "Hallelujah" on Good Morning America.
