Bernie Sanders Bored Clapping Is the Meme of the Union

If the 2016 election taught us anything it's that the Internet can't get enough of Sen. Bernie Sanders. 

The Senate's longest-serving independent looked like he'd rather be anywhere but President Donald Trump's State of the Union address.

Trump's address was also one of the longest State of the Union addresses in history at over an hour and 20 minutes.

This gave the television cameras plenty of opportunities to capture some unforgettable reactions from Congress.

While the TV networks make sure to show Trump's allies applauding things like immigration reform and tax cuts, they also showed Trump's opponents clapping about bipartisan issues (jobs, veterans, etc.)—many looked like they were just going through the motions, and none more so than Sanders.

While President Trump spent the majority of his first State of the Union speech addressing his base and applauding for himself, many pundits agreed the speech was one of Trump's best; he stayed on topic and kept the ad libs to a minimum.

If Sanders seemed lost in thought, he was probably plotting his own response to the President, which he delivered at around midnight Tuesday.
