For the most part, when people prepare to appear on Jeopardy!, they usually study materials like state capitols, classic literature, and perhaps, even some random pop culture trivia (You never know when Alex Trebek will ask who's playing the Colonel in the latest KFC ads).
But with Super Bowl LLII around the corner, the "Talkin' Football" category on Thursday night's show, had all three contestants sweating.
“I can tell you guys are big football fans,” he told them after they stayed silent after the first question. “Do you think we should go to commercial?”
As the category continued, Trebek valiantly read the questions, but, was met with nothing but silence from the otherwise brilliant contestants. From what an option play is, to who the Purple People Eaters are, none dared buzz in and risk losing their cash.
The crowd, clearly enjoying hear Trebek throw shade at the lack of football knowledge on display, burst out into laughter several times. For their part, the contestants looked miserable and ready for the round to be over. When they finally reached the $1,000 question, Trebek couldn't help twisting the knife.
“Let’s look at the thousand dollar clue, just for the fun of it,” he jokes.
You really can't understand how much fun the trainwreck is to watch until you see it for yourself.
Fun fact: Our contestants answered as many clues in this category as the @Browns had wins this season. pic.twitter.com/KMaR8otIHe
