Best Buy is planning to stop selling CDs at all stores across the country by July 1, 2018, and Target is expected to follow.
Due to online streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music becoming the main source to listen and buy music, CD sales have plummeted within the last decade. In 2001, over 800 million CDs were sold in the U.S., however last year, only 89 million were sold, according to Consequence of Sound. Although CD sales have dropped, there has been a recent boost in vinyl sales.
Surprisingly, despite decreased CD sales recently, some are shocked to see CDs leave stores.
