Multiple news outlets are reporting that Rev. Al Sharpton's half-brother, Pastor Kenneth Glasgow, has been charged with capital murder.
The Dothan Eagle, a news outlet in Alabama, claims that Glasgow drove 26-year-old Jamie Townes around town looking for his stolen car on Sunday (March 25). When Townes saw 23-year-old Breunia Jennings, he shot and killed her because he believed that she was the thief. Alabama laws states that any person aiding or abetting an act of crime is equally liable. But, Glasgow is proclaiming his innocence. He says that he shouldn't be charged with murder because he didn't do anything wrong.
“I don’t know why I am facing capital murder charges,” Glasgow stated in court this week. “I’m not responsible for what someone else does. He just asked me for a ride to take him to look for his car.”
The Dothan Eagle adds that District Judge Benjamin Lewis "informed Glasgow he needed to stop making comments until he could speak with his attorney. Glasgow asked Lewis to appoint an attorney to represent him. However, his mother, Tina Glasgow, informed Lewis the family would be hiring an attorney to represent Glasgow."
With Glasgow facing this charge, he's not eligible for bail. His preliminary hearing will take place on Friday, April 6. There, a judge will determine if there is substantial evidence to send the capital murder charge to a grand jury for potential indictment.
Glasgow has been a community leader for years. He founded a homeless ministry in his town and even attended a March For Our Lives rally the day before this incident. The pastor has also worked restore the voting rights of ex-cons.
