The 2018 Major League Baseball season is off to an explosive start. On the first pitch of the season, Chicago Cubs center fielder Ian Happ launched a home run into the right-field seats, giving the Cubs a quick 1-0 lead over the Miami Marlins.
The first pitch home run appeared to rattle Marlins starter José Ureña. He hit three batters and walked two more in the inning, but only allowed two more runs to cross the plate. Starlin Castro, who was acquired by the Marlins in a trade with the New York Yankees for Giancarlo Stanton, got one run back in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot of his own.
It is the first time that a player has gone yard on the first pitch of the season since 1986 when Dwight Evans went deep off Jack Morris.
The Cubs posted a video of the home run on Twitter.
