Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan shocked everyone on Monday night (April 2) when the star-studded couple announced their split via social media. However, sources close to PEOPLE revealed that the pair has been separated for months.

As per the new report, which was published on Tuesday morning, Tatum moved out of their Los Angeles house that he shared with his wife of almost nine years and their four-year-old daughter, Everly, months ago. "This has been a long time coming," one insider admitted. "Like any marriage, they've had their ups and downs over the years but they really started to grow apart within the last year." You wouldn't have expected it as they were all smiles when they attended the 2018 Kids' Choice Awards as a family in late March in promotion for Tatum's new animated film, Smallfoot.

"We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple," they said in their joint statement. "There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision — just two best-friends realizing it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible."

Back in February, Dewan spoke to Health about the perception that the pair has the "perfect life" together. "When people say you guys have such a perfect life, I want to scream and tell them no one's perfect," she told the magazine. "I think there are such things as great fits. It is a great fit as long as you are growing together, and I think up until this point we’ve really grown together. Even if one starts to grow, the other catches up and vice versa."

Tatum and Dewan started dating shortly after they met on the set of their 2006 dance film, Step Up, and tied the knot in 2009. Scroll on below to see happier times with the colleagues-turned-lovers.
