Kelis Reveals That Nas Used To Beat Her In Their Marriage

In a new interview with Hollywood Unlocked, Kelis made the shocking announcement that her marriage to rapper Nas used to be a very abusive one.

We've read about the messy custody battles that she and Nas have had over their child. However, now we're learning how tumultuous their relationship was as man and wife. According to Kelis, the rapper would put his hands on her. “It was really dark. There was a lot of drinking. There was a lot of mental and physical abuse,” Kelis said. “I probably would have stayed longer had I not been pregnant [with Knight] because I really did love him and because we were married. We weren’t dating, we were married. Like, this was my person.”

The "Milkshake" singer added that after being silent for almost 10 years, she's finally found to courage to speak out. “I’ve waited nine years to say anything. I have never talked about this man, ever,” she explained. “The amount of airing out that I could do, and I’ve chosen not to … Our kids will find out. They’re finding out now."

As Kelis continued about the sensitive subject, she also spoke about the Rihanna and Chris Brown situation. It reminded her of her relationship. “Something reminded me of Rihanna,” she told the entertainment outlet. “I remember so clearly when the pictures came out with that whole thing that happened with her and Chris Brown. The only way I could describe it was like double-dutch, like, ‘Do I jump in? Do I say it?’ Because I had bruises all over my body at that time.

“I’m not weak and I’m really private,” she added. “I’m not frail, I’m not scared, I’m not weak.”  Watch Kelis' revealing interview above.
