The Jedi are no longer the most powerful force at the box office.

Avengers: Infinity War smashed through box office records this weekend earning an estimated $250 million in ticket sales over the weekend as audiences flocked to theaters to see their favorite superheros take on Thanos and his quest to unite the six infinity stones.

The movie narrowly beat Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the best opening weekend of all time by $2 million domestically.

Captain America and friends also assembled to set a new global record, earning $630 million worldwide - an amazing feat despite the fact that the movie has yet to open in China, the second-largest movie market in the world behind the United States. China gets to see it on May 11th.

Other movies at the box office included John Krasinski's A Quiet Place, which earned $10.7 million, followed by Amy Schumer's I Feel Pretty ($8 million). Rampage saw a steep drop in its second weekend, earning $7.1 million, while fellow Marvel movie Black Panther turned in a respectable $4.6 million after being in theaters since February. It's the first time since The Incredible Hulk (2008) that two films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe are appearing in the top ten together.
