Grammys, CMAs, ACMs and now a Tony?
Lady Antebellum could be adding a new trophy to their collection as the country trio has been nominated for its first-ever Tony Award.
Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood and Hillary Scott snagged a nod from the show that honors excellence in live Broadway theatre for Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) for “Chop to the Top,” the song they wrote for Spongebob Squarepants: The Musical.
Charles explains the trio wrote the song long before they even had kids and, after “so many years,” began to wonder if it made the show.
“Those musicals must take forever to put together, because we were like, ‘Well, I guess it fell through,’ and all of a sudden, years later it resurfaced that it’s coming out,” he says. “So, I can’t wait to see it. It’ll be fun to take the kids.”
Added Hillary in a tweet, “We are over the [moon].”
Spongebob Squarepants: The Musical tied for the most nominations in 2018 with 12 total.
Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban host the 72nd Annual Tony Awards air live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City June 10 on CBS.
Something I never thought I’d ever tweet: @ladyantebellum got nominated for a Tony Award. For a song we wrote for SpongeBob Square Pants The Broadway Musical. We are over the 🌙. 💕🙊😃
