In honor of Mother's day, Christina Grimmie's family has posthumously shared an unreleased and very touching song called "Little Girl."

"Little Girl" was originally written and recorded by Christina for her mother, who at the time was undergoing treatment for breast cancer, but never released it. The song describes the loving and supportive relationship between mother and daughter, and in the chorus, Grimmie sings from the perspective of her mother, "Little girl, I'm here to say/ Don't run away/ Little girl, I know you're scared/ The things you bear/ So let me tell you, you're okay/ That you're in my arms to stay/ Little girl."

An emotional video for "Little Girl" shows photos and video footage of Christina from throughout her career, performing on stage at various concerts all over the world, as well as photos of her and her mother.

Christina's mother, Tina Grimmie, told PEOPLE of the emotional song:

"I am proud to share this extremely personal song with other mothers and daughters as well as Christina's fans. It is very special to me and carries a part of not only Christina but our unique bond. I miss her daily and I take comfort in knowing that this song might help other mothers and daughters through their fearful or tough times."

According to PEOPLE, a portion of the proceeds from "Little Girl" will go to the Christina Grimmie Foundation, which helps families affected by gun violence or breast cancer.

It's been nearly two years since Christina was fatally shot by a fan during a meet and greet while signing autographs after performing a show near Orlando, Florida. The budding pop star was opening for Before You Exit at a venue called The Plaza Live.

Tina Grimmie also opened up about the story behind "Little Girl" in a YouTube video, and the video's description mentions that "Mama Grimmie wants this song to be a source of encouragement for other mothers and daughters with special thoughts toward's mothers who have lost children."
