Students were shocked, and parents were outraged after a caged tiger was wheeled in during the jungle-themed prom at a private Catholic school in Miami. The prom, hosted by Christopher Columbus High School at a hotel near Miami International Airport, featured other animals including a lemur, two macaws, and an African fennec fox.

Marie-Christine Castellanos, whose brother was at the prom, shared photos and videos of the tiger on Facebook. She called the school "shameful" for using the tiger "as an EXOTIC amusement for the mindless teenagers."

How shameful for Christopher Columbus High school ...showing its students on prom night who is the “king of the jungle “ this poor tiger was used as an EXOTIC amusement for the mindless teenagers who were present , it is not the student fault to be so naive BUT it’s the CCHS STAFF who arranged this event ,there for they are responsible for this tigers misery: ask yourselves this :

1. DID THIS TIGER ASK TO ATTEND PROM?

2. Why didn’t anyone open the cage and see what would happen to these “Brave and courageous fire performers?”

3. WHY DOES CCHS ALLOW SUCH ANIMAL CRUELTY?

The videos show the tiger pacing back and forth in its cage while loud music plays and fire dancers perform feet from the caged animal.

The school issued a statement defending the use of animals during the prom. It said that the "animals were displayed in a very controlled situation," and that "two Miami-Dade Police officers were present the entire time." The school pointed out that "the animals were provided by facilities that are licensed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.”
