Chelsea Handler Dishes on Everything From Politics to Her Dating Life

Chelsea Handler has moved on from her days at E! cracking jokes about the Kardashians with sidekick Chuy Bravo. She’s also since ended her self-titled talk show at Netflix, Chelsea, but her partnership with the streaming service is far from over. The funnywoman and multi-hyphenate has decided to instead use her platform to focus on activism, writing books and the current political climate.

In the most recent episode of The Thrive Global Podcast, in partnership with iHeartRadio and Sleep Number, Handler welcomed Arianna Huffington to her Bel Air, California, home to chat about everything from refocusing her "political rage” to whether she’ll ever get married or not.

“I want to try something else I haven't done,” Handler started the conversation off, telling Huffington about her current agenda. “And this year, the last year with the election, it kind of just gave you no choice. But for me, there was no choice but to focus on that because I had such high outrage.”

Handler, who supported Hillary Clinton in the election, explained that she’d become an elitist and didn’t like it.

“It made me realize that I had to really just dial everything back and take a beat. And not just sit there and spout off what I wanted to happen without doing the legwork or without putting my money where my mouth is,” she continued. “And so spending the last few months going around the country, speaking at universities, talking to conservatives, tempering my temper. Trying to have real conversations without getting angry, or being reactive, or hating somebody because they voted for Trump. Being just more openminded about other people's experiences and learning about the places that I don't know anything about in this country.”

To do so, she’s refocused what she’s dubbed her "political rage.”

“Me sitting by the TV getting angry, screaming at whomever, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, every single day in my master bedroom is not how I want to harness my energy,” Handler explained. “There's so many good things that I can do with that energy. And so I partnered with Emily's List. I'm doing work with Wave. I'm in Orange County to flip those four seats that are flippable. And I'm working with candidates all across the country, men and women who I believe in and who I support because we need to get the money out of politics. We need to get candidates that want to overturn Citizens United and that want to have publicly funded elections. So that's my focus, is to get those people elected and then hopefully in November, I can just go take a long, hot bath in the sun somewhere.”

She’s also since reevaluated her thoughts when it comes to romantic partnerships. While she’s still anti kids and marriage, she wouldn’t mind settling down.

“I need somebody who can put me in my place. You know? I want a man that can be like, ‘Listen. You're out of line right now,’” Handler shared. “I want somebody who can kind of manhandle me, so to speak, in a nice way.”
