Chrissy Teigen Gets the Backstreet Boys to Explain That Confusing Lyric

Chrissy Teigen for the win. The model, mom of two and cookbook author took to Twitter on Friday, June 1, to ask a very important question: What do the lyrics in the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way” mean?

At the end of the iconic jam, the lyrics go: “I never wanna hear you say / I want it that way / ‘Cause I want it that way.”

Teigen took to Twitter to ponder and wrote: “‘I never wanna hear you say, ‘I want it that way’ cause i want it that way’. He doesn’t wanna hear it because he is the one that wants it that way? He wants to be the one to say it? Also what is ‘it’?”

Much to our amusement — and education! — the Backstreet Boys responded.

“Don’t wanna hear you say that you want heartaches and mistakes... or to be 2 worlds apart. We don’t want you to want ‘it’ that way - that’s the way we want it... for you to not want it that way,” the band tweeted back at the supermodel, along with a fitting GIF. 

Fans were quick to respond to the convo, tweeting things like "What kind of voodoo magic does she have that she got the answer?!” and “FINALLY.”

The Backstreet Boys will hit the stage at iHeartRadio’s 2018 Wango Tango on Saturday, June 2, at LA’s Banc of California Stadium along with fellow performers Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes, Meghan Trainor, 5 Seconds of Summer, NF, Miguel, Janelle Monáe and Marshmello with a special guest performance by Logic.

This year's Wango Tango will air during a 90-minute television special, exclusively on Freeform, on Sunday, June 3rd at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
