A government contractor was taken into custody by the United States Secret Service at a White House checkpoint over an outstanding warrant for attempted murder. Police in Prince George's County, Maryland put out a warrant for the arrest of Martese Edwards in connection with a shooting on May 3rd. The warrant was issued on May 17th, and the Secret Service was notified on June 4th. Edwards was arrested the next day as he showed up to work at the White House.
“On June 4, 2018, the U.S. Secret Service was notified by the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) that Martese Edwards was the subject of a warrant issued out of Prince Georges County, MD,” the Secret Service said in a statement. “On June 5, 2018, Edwards was promptly arrested by Secret Service Uniformed Division Officers at a checkpoint outside of the White House complex when he was reporting to work as a contractor. Edwards was transported to MPD Second District for processing.”
Edwards was a contractor for the National Security Council and worked out of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is next to the White House's West Wing.
Fox 5 DC spoke with a neighbor of Edwards who claims to have witnessed Edwards getting into a violent argument with a woman in early May.
“We just heard a loud noise, screaming and just glass shattering in the middle of the parking lot, and we were just like scared and then come to find out the same noise we heard traveled towards my neighbor’s door, unfortunately,” said neighbor Catrice Pinkett.
Edwards is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday to face charges of first-degree attempted murder.
