Chris Cornell has been gone for over a year, but his daughter Toni Cornell still had a Father's Day gift for him: a duet with him on one of his favorite songs, "Nothing Compares 2 U."
As Toni's mother Vicky Cornell explained in a Tweet, last year Toni discovered some files containing the tracks for what were to be her dad's version of the Prince-penned song that was a hit for Sinéad O'Connor in 1992.
In a tribute to her late-father, Toni added her own vocals to the tracks, creating a heart-wrenching duet with her dad.
"Daddy, I love you and miss you so much," Toni wrote in a statement released via Chris' official Twitter account. "You were the best father anyone could ask for. Our relationship was so special, and you were always there for me. You gave me courage when I didn't have any. You believes in me when I didn't. I miss your love everyday."
I’m so proud of my baby girl for having the courage to share this. July 19, last year she found it in her daddy’s studio files-they recorded it a few months before he died. Chris used to perform "Nothing Compares 2 U" in his solo live shows. According to Vicky, he recorded the song in the studio a few months before his death.
This isn't the first time Toni has used her voice to pay tribute to her dad. She appeared on Good Morning America last August with OneRepublic to sing a version of "Hallejulah" for her dad.
