Immigration protesters call for end to detention

Immigration advocates are expected to turn out today for protests and rallies being held across the country. Organizers say hundreds of thousands of people are expected for rallies against the Trump administration's "zero-tolerance" immigration policy.

The ACLU says up to 300,000 people will take part in Washington D.C., with similar protests being held in other big cities like New York and Los Angeles. Protesters were heard chanting "shame!" and "shut detention down" at the New York City march.

The protests are motivated by stories of children who have been separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border in an effort to pressure the administration into reuniting the families quickly. They're also asking local government agencies to stop cooperating with federal immigration officials.
