Mexico City is electing a Jewish woman as its new mayor.  On Sunday, Claudia Sheinbaum became the first Jew to be elected mayor of North America's largest city.  Mexico City has a Jewish population of about 50,000.  Sheinbaum is also the first woman to be elected mayor of the city.  A woman served as mayor of the city for one year on an interim basis, but she was appointed in 1999.
