Woman Survives After Awning Collapses On Top Of Her In New York City

Two women were rushed to the hospital in serious condition after an awning came crashing down on their heads while they were standing outside of a building in Brooklyn, New York. Dramatic video caught the moment the awning fell to the ground.

The two women were talking when the awning suddenly collapsed on top of them. It appeared to crush one woman while the other woman was knocked to the ground. Bystanders rushed to their aid and attempted to lift the awning. Miraculously, both women survived and are being treated at a local hospital. 

NBC New York reports that the New York Department of Buildings issued a full vacate order of the building and ordered the owner to construct a sidewalk shed to protect pedestrians. Officials were also inspecting nearby businesses to ensure their awnings are properly secured.
