Looks like Troye Sivan and Ariana Grande's video for "Dance To This" underwent a makeover as a new rendition of the clip dropped on Tuesday (July 31) featuring two adorable mini versions of the pop stars.
Directed by Jake Wilson, the three-minute video sees the two kiddos lip-syncing the song in what looks like the same nursing home set as the original clip. From their outfits to hairstyles, it's a fitting nod to the original affair, which hit the blogosphere in July and has nabbed almost 25 million views. As you might have guessed, the remake also received some positive reception from Sivan, who posted a clip of the video on Instagram, writing, "NO NO NO THIS IS TOO MUCH THE PONYTAIL."
Speaking with iHeartRadio, Wilson admitted that the idea to reimagine the video with children arrived courtesy of two of the original video stars. Hint: It wasn't Troye nor Ariana. "I got the idea when I was re-watching the original video. I couldn't help but notice how cute the little twins were in the video," the director said via e-mail. "I got an idea. What if I redid this thing with all kids?"
"It was so amazing working with Caden and A'naiiyah. I have three nieces and nephews and babysitting was my day job growing up, so I am super comfortable around and directing kids," he continued. "We had such a blast doing it and shot the whole thing in under four hours which is crazy. My best girlfriend's baby is the little one eating the Cheerios at the front table, too, so it was awesome to work with a kid that I've already known for so long."
Asked what other music videos he would love to recreate with kiddos, Wilson didn't have one in mind, but he did admit he'd love to work on an ASL version of a song. "I would love to continue to flip the script and continue to show people that music is universal," he explained.
"Dance To This" will appear on Sivan's upcoming sophomore effort, Bloom, which drops on August 31 and includes the title track, the previously released "My My My," as well as the rest of his work with Max Martin's camp. In our interview with Sivan, the pop star admitted that his collaborations with the famed songwriting/production team surpassed his expectations. "I was expecting to arrive at their studio and them to have this formula that they just do it and then I leave and I'm a pop star all of a sudden," he explained. "And it's so not like that. I think the secret if I can give away their secret, is that they are all incredibly nice and incredibly hardworking and incredibly talented. And, it's annoying, because I think people like to think that they've just got it all figured out. In most respects, they do. But, there's no magic trick that gives you a great pop song. They are just really inspiring writers to work with that I think bring the best out of a lot of people."
