'Riverdale' Is Getting Another Spinoff… But Without This Teenage Witch

Brace yourselves, Riverdale is expanding with a second spinoff!
The CW's president Mark Pedowitz announced the news at the Television Critics Association summer press tour Monday (August 5), stating the network is already in the early stages of developing a side project based on the 2017 series adaptation.
Despite what little knowledge there is of the endeavor, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told TVLine he has something special in mind for the offshoot that "will be very different from" the original mystery series.
Outside of the potential spinoff, Aguirre-Sacasa already has Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (another character of the Archie Comics universe) slated to premiere on Netflix on October 26. Sabrina, which follows a 16-year-old witch-in-training named Sabrina Spellman, was initially sought by The CW as a spinoff of Riverdale but Netflix acquired the series in a two-year deal with Warner Bros. TV.
Given the differing network homes, Aguirre-Sacasa explained to TVLine that fans needn't keep their eyes peeled for a crossover feature by a certain teenage witch in the Riverdale side venture any time soon. He explained: "Right now, we're trying to make sure that the shows have their own identity and their own set of rules."
The Riverdale spinoff news arrives months after The CW renewed the show for a third season back in April, which debuts October 10.
