Police in California have launched a manhunt for a 25-year-old volunteer wrestling coach at Stockton Unified’s Franklin High School after he ran off with a 16-year-old student he was in a "romantic relationship" with. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s office shared a photo of Phillip Maglaya on Facebook asking people to be on the lookout for him and his "1994 green Toyota extra cab truck."

The girl has not been identified but was reported missing last Wednesday.

The school district told Fox40 that Maglaya passed all the required background checks, and stressed that he was a volunteer coach only. He was about to start his second year working with the school's wrestling team.

The district said they are assisting law enforcement in the search for the coach and the teenage girl.

“Safety is SUSD’s most important priority,” Stockton Unified School District spokeswoman Dianne Barth told the Stockton Record. “The district will continue to work with the student’s family and law enforcement until the student is found.”
