The country singer took the stage at the Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, Michigan, in a black dress, while backed by a large gospel choir. She shouted out, "Celebrate Aretha ... Sing with me!" before kicking off her performance that brought the congregation to its feet.
Faith was one of the many stars who took the stage for the Queen of Soul's "Celebration of Life." Aretha's homegoing ceremony, which is currently underway, has already featured performances by Ariana Grande, Smokey Robinson, and The Clark Sisters. Other notable performers will include Jennifer Hudson, Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, gospel singer Shirley Caesar and Fantasia Barrino-Taylor.
Also present for the ceremony are Bill Clinton, Hilary Clinton, Tyler Perry, and Whoopi Goldberg.
Aretha passed away on August 16 at the age of 76 at her home in Detroit “due to advance pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type.”
Faith was one of the first celebrities to share a touching tribute to the Queen of Soul. She captioned an old photo of the two of them, "GLORY, GLORY, GLORY to the ALMIGHTY!!! The choir of angels now have the greatest voice of all time to lead, praise and join in to sing before Jesus. I wanted to share this photo because it shows just how soulful Aretha was without uttering a word. To say I was humbled to be in her presence would be an understatement."
She also shared her three favorite Aretha albums — Amazing Grace: The Complete Recordings, One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism, and Aretha Live at Filmore West — urging her followers to "listen to these over and over."
