Parents were outraged after a "petty" eighth-grade teacher at a charter school in Memphis, Tennessee told her students that they would be limited to just two hall passes per month, and if they wanted a third they would be given detention.

On the first day of class at Aspire Hanley Middle School, "Mrs. White" gave her students a pass which explained they would "only have 2 passes for the ENTIRE month" and must get it signed whenever they need "to go to the bathroom, nurse, speak with admin or to get water."

Students were told that if they failed to get her signature before leaving they would be given a detention and a receive a zero on the current assignment.

"I understand that Mrs. White is petty and although we both have options, I can be denied going to the restroom/water/nurse during the lesson," the note continued. "If you have any comments, questions or concerns, please feel free to speak with Mrs. White before or after-school, although nothing will change."

One of the students showed the note to their mother, who posted it on Facebook. A family friend then shared it on Twitter where it quickly went viral, sparking angry comments from parents and teachers.

Aspire Hanley Middle School released a statement to ABC24 saying they "investigating the claim."

“Today we were notified that one of our teachers at Aspire Hanley Middle School allegedly issued an agreement between students and the teacher around permission for restricted bathroom, water and nurse visit privileges. Our staff is currently investigating the claim at this time. We want our scholars and parents to know that our focus will always be on the wellbeing of our scholars and we take every allegation seriously.”
