Pickup Game With Foo Fighters Scores NCAA Sanctions for Kentucky

An informal soccer game between members of GRAMMY Award-winning rock band Foo Fighters and members of the University of Kentucky soccer teams has resulted in sanctions against the programs by the NCAA.

The game in question occurred in May when the Foo Fighters were in town for a concert at Kentucky's Rupp Arena. 

Before the show, members of the band started a pickup soccer game with some of the university's soccer coaches. Later, players from Wildcats' men's and women's teams joined in.

The problem is that the NCAA prohibits players and coaches from participating in games or scrimmages the week before final exams. 

Kentucky reported the alleged infraction to the NCAA, reports Louisville's Courier-Journal. 

As a result, players from Kentucky's men's and women's soccer teams will have to sit out two supervised team activities this year.

Courier-Journal reports the Kentucky players and the Foo Fighters band members were initially playing on separate ends of the field before the band invited the coaches and students to join them.
