On Friday (September 7), Phoenix played the second night of their Los Angeles residency at the Fonda Theater and gave fans a little surprise.
The Parisian indie rockers brought out LA native Beck to perform two of his songs — "Lost Cause" off 2002's Sea Change and "Jack-Ass" off 1996's Odelay — with the band.
“Every night we play in LA has to be special,” Phoenix vocalist Thomas Mars told the crowd in the middle of performing their song "Lovelife." “I think there’s almost one LA reference in every single song that we have. So this is one of your anthems.”
The iconic singer-songwriter then walked onstage to sing his career spanning songs. Naturally, he was met by monstrous applause.

Phoenix's five-night residency continues on September 10th. They're set to play the 11th and 12th, too, and there's bound to be more surprises (and gelato) during those shows.
After the LA stint, the band goes to Denver for the inaugural Grandoozy festival. That set marks their last performance of 2018. They haven't announced any 2019 tour dates yet, so perhaps that means they're going back into the studio to work on their seventh studio album? Fingers crossed!
