An off-duty Dallas police officer was arrested on Sunday in connection with the shooting death of 26-year-old Botham Shem Jean, the Texas Rangers said in a statement.

Officer Amber Guyger was returning home from her shift with the Dallas police department when she mistakenly entered Jean's apartment at the complex where she also lived, and fatally shot him after believing he was an intruder, police said Thursday.

The 30-year-old Guyger was charged with manslaughter according to jail records and released after posting a $300,000  bond. It was not clear whether Guyger was being represented by an attorney.

The department identified Guyger on Sunday as a four-year veteran of the department, who was assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division.

Jean was identified as a 26-year-old employee of PricewaterhouseCoopers where he worked as a risk assurance associate according to his LinkedIn Page. The native of St. Lucia earned his bachelor's degree from Harding University in Arkansas in 2016.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings wrote on Twitter Sunday night, asking for people to pray for the family of Botham Jean.

"I want to thank the Texas Rangers for thoroughly investigating this tragic case from the moment the Dallas Police Department requested that they take over on Friday morning. I am grateful to Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall for her leadership and foresight in calling for the Rangers to handle the investigation to ensure there no appearance of bias. I also greatly appreciate that our citizens and community leaders were so respectful of the investigative process over these past few days."

Court documents showed that Guyger was previously involved in another shooting incident in May 2017. According to the report, Guyger shot and wounded a suspect after a struggle during which the suspect grabbed her stun gun.
