Hundreds of firefighters were called after multiple cars caught on fire inside the parking garage at Kings Plaza Mall in Brooklyn, New York. The fire broke out early Monday (September 17) morning on the second level of the parking deck and quickly spread to the third level, becoming a seven-alarm fire. At least 21 people were treated for injuries, including 18 firefighters.

"None of these 21 injuries is life-threatening or critical, everyone is stable," the FDNY said in a statement. "Our members have various levels of smoke inhalation, heat exhaustion, working under those conditions. Smoke and heat, wearing what they wear, one can only imagine what they are going through."

There were at least 120 vehicles parked in the garage, with many of them belonging to a nearby car dealership. The mall was not open when the fire broke out and authorities said it will remain closed until further notice.

Officials said that once the fire is brought under control they will begin investigating what caused it.
