Authorities in Connecticut had been unable to solve the murder of Melissa Millan, who was stabbed to death while jogging in 2014, until the killer confessed to his crime. William Leverett didn't tell his story to the police, instead, he walked into Open Gate Ministries in East Granby and admitted to the violent murder.

Michael Trazinski, the pastor of the church, along with two parishioners, escorted Leverett to the police station, where he detailed how and why he killed Millan. Leverett, who is a registered sex offender, explained to police that he was looking for "human contact" after attending a treatment meeting for sex offenders when he saw the 54-year-old Millan jogging in the woods. He said that he became "mentally aroused" at the sight of the older woman, but started to become angry when he realized that she was out of his league and that he could never be with her.

Leverett confronted Millan in a dark area of the trail where the lights were broken and stabbed her in the chest. As Millan fell backward onto the road, Leverett grabbed the knife and fled. He tossed the weapon out of his car window but returned a few days later to retrieve it so he could dispose of it in the trash compactor at his job.

After days of interviews with authorities, Leverett brought them to a location where he had hidden a bloody glove, which had Millan's DNA on it. He also told police details that were not made public, such as what Millan was wearing when she was killed.

Leverett was arrested and charged with murder. He is due in court on October 9th to face the charges.
