The Boy Scouts of America is recalling neckerchief slides because they contain high levels of lead. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that the recall affects around 110,000 sliders, which used a colored enamel that "contains levels of lead that exceed the federal lead content ban."
The brass neckerchief sliders were sold in four styles: red wolf, green bear, orange lion, and blue Webelos. The sliders were all made in China and labeled with P.O. number 200228276, 20023175, 200233281 or 200236630 printed on a white label attached to the back of the neckerchief slide.
The commission said that anybody who has one of the four neckerchief sliders should "take them away from children and return them to any Boy Scouts of America retail store or distributor for a free replacement neckerchief slide."
The Boy Scouts said that they have found the source of the problem and have taken steps to correct it.
"We have identified an isolated, one-time production error which we believe caused this problem. That error has been corrected. We are reviewing the quality controls we use to ensure the quality and safety of our products."
