Paul McCartney is taking his turn at children's publishing.
The Beatles legend revealed earlier this week that he'll be releasing a picture book for kids based called Hey Grandude! on September 5, 2019. The title, which will be published by Puffin and features drawings by Kathryn Durst, is described as “a heart-warming family story inspired by Paul’s own experience of being a grandfather.”
So what's the meaning behind the title? Well, as McCartney explained in a video announcement: "Well, I’ve got eight grandchildren and they’re all beautiful and one day one of them said to me, ‘Hey Grandude!’ I said, ‘What?’ I thought, ‘I kind of like that,’ so from then on I was kind of known as Grandude."
“I thought, ‘You know what, it’s actually a nice idea for a book,'" he added. "So I started to write some stories and then I talked to the publishers and they liked what I was doing.”

The 76-year-old also revealed the story will follow a magical character called Grandude "who represents grandfathers everywhere" and has four grandchildren of his own whom he calls "chillers."
“They love him and they go on adventures with him and he’s kind of magical, so you’ll see that in the book," he continued. "I wanted to write it for grandparents everywhere — and the kids — so it gives you something to read to the grandkids at bedtime.”
While no stranger to authoring books of his own, Hey Grandude! will mark McCartney's first solo picture book title. He once co-authored a junior fiction book called The Curious Tale of Fi-Rex.
In other exciting news, the former Beatles member is celebrating the 50th anniversary of his band's highly-acclaimed White Album with a deluxe box expansion, set to release this November.
