A mother in Florida claims that a nurse at Orange Park Medical Center accidentally brought her newborn son to the wrong room, where he was breastfed by another woman. Joii Brown told News4Jax that the nurses took her son to have a circumcision, a procedure which should only take around 30 minutes.

After waiting for over one hour, Brown asked what was taking so long and learned that a nurse took her son, Roman Philips, to another woman's room and she began to breastfeed the newborn, believing it was her own son.

The hospital said that it was a mistake and the nurses appeared to downplay the incident when they explained to Brown what happened.

"I know everybody makes mistakes, but this is something I feel like is more than just a mistake because, just looking at a wristband, that’s something really minor," Brown said. "All you had to do was look at the wristband and see that isn’t her child."

The hospital immediately ran tests on Roman, but the staff was unable to tell Brown if the unidentified woman was on any medications which could have been in her breast milk.

"My main concern is that it could have been something other than breast milk," she said. "And that (it) could happen to anybody’s child."

Brown said her family has contacted a lawyer and is considering legal action against the hospital.
