U2 frontman Bono says he's had two brushes with death in just the last three years.

While details of the singer's 2015 cycling accident in New York were highly public, Bono says another much more recent incident nearly did him in

"It was pretty serious," Bono told Sunday Times. "I'm all right now, but I very nearly wasn't. I've had a lot of warnings. A fair few punches of the last years."

The singer continued, apparently referring to a health scare, saying "there were some serious whispers in the ear that maybe I should have taken notice of. The Edge says I look at my body as an inconvenience, and I do. I really love being alive and I'm quite good at being alive, meaning I like to get the best out of any day."

He suggested that the issue was partially his own doing.

In interviews last year surrounding the release of U2's Songs of Experience album, Bono referred to the health crisis, saying, "A lot of people have these moments."

Edge added that the "major fright" ended up bringing the best out of Bono as a songwriter.

Another recent health concern of Bono's surrounded that of his vocal cords. U2 cut short a performance last month in Berlin after Bono lost his voice after just a few songs.

The following day he issued a statement revealing that after seeing a doctor "anything serious" had been ruled out. Bono added that he and the band were frustrated that "the Berlin audience were so inconvenienced."
