Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced on Monday (Oct. 15) that they're expecting their first child together, due in the spring of 2019. This special moment must be bittersweet for the Duke of Sussex, though, because he's unable to share it with his later mother Princess Diana. Meghan made sure to honor her mother-in-law following the royal baby announcement and her sweet gesture is so touching.
During her first public appearance since revealing she's 12 weeks pregnant, Meghan wore a pair of earrings that caught the attention of royal watchers. The butterfly earrings are from Princess Diana's personal collection, according to the fan account Meghan's Mirror, which she wore a year after giving birth to Prince Harry in May of 1986.
The incredibly talented @saadsalman719 has dug into the (literal) vaults to find Meghan's gold butterfly earrings - they belonged to Princess Diana. With many thanks for sharing this tidbit (and side-by-side) with us pic.twitter.com/PDhWOiFLhC

While the butterfly earrings are especially endearing because of their connection to both Diana and Harry, Meghan also wore one of her mother-in-law's gold bracelets during her first post-pregnancy announcement appearance. Meghan's Mirror reports that Princess Diana wore the bracelet while visiting the Lord Gage Centre for Old People, a Guinness Trust Home, in Newham, East London in 1990.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a few stops on the first day of their Australian tour. While Meghan changed from a white dress to a green one for the different events, she kept the butterfly earrings on all day. This gesture of keeping Princess Diana close on their special day must have meant so much to Prince Harry.
