Famed Brothel Owner Dennis Hof Expected to Win Election, Despite Death

A candidate running for Nevada's state Assembly should be feeling pretty good about his chances of winning in November - despite having the distinct disadvantage of being dead.

Known as Nevada's most famous pimp, Dennis Hof, 72, passed away on Tuesday after a friend found his body at his Love Ranch brothel located outside Las Vegas, the Nye County Sheriff's office said. No foul play is suspected in his death.

Hof, who starred the HBO's reality-show series and documentary about the sex industry, "Cathouse," was also running for Nevada state Assembly in the 36th district, a heavily-favored GOP district, after he knocked out the incumbent in the June primary. The outspoken candidate styled himself after President Trump, saying he was the "Trump from Pahrump" while waging a no-holds-barred campaign against his Democratic opponent, Las Vegas educator Lesia Romanov.

Voting for Hof's seat begins Saturday in Nevada, which means it's too late to change the ballots in time. Electors will have signs up at polls in the district informing them of Hof's death, but that may not matter. The 36th district is considered a safe Republican seat which means if Hof does end up winning, county commissioners would have to appoint a Republican to take that seat until the next election, two years from now.

"Just when I thought that there was nothing else in this race that could possibly shock me, here we are," Hof's campaign consultant, Chuck Muth, told the Associated Press on Wednesday.

In addition to owning the Love Ranch, Hof owned five other brothels scattered around the state including the famed, Moonlite Bunny Ranch, the Cherry Patch Ranch the Kit Kat Ranch, the Sagebrush Ranch, and the Love Ranch North.

"It is with a heavy heart that I share this: Another Pirate King has fallen," Hof's lawyer Marc J. Randazza said in a statement. "Rest in Slack, Dennis Hof. I am proud to have called you a client and a friend. Everyone who dies from this day forward will have a hell of a lot more fun on the other side."
