Shawn Mendes Teases More Country Music Collaborations

Pop sensation Shawn Mendes may have a career in country music after all.

Shawn and the Zac Brown Band ruled the CMT Crossroads stage, taking the TV special to the next level with their natural groove and goosebump laden harmonies.

During an interview with CMT’s Cody Alan, Shawn shared that he and Zac have been grooving since they initially met for the first time in Toronto. “I go up to the bus, expecting just to be chilling on the bus and I open up the door, and it’s just like, four-part harmony, guitars wailing, and people drumming on cups and stuff,” Shawn smirks and his eyes light up “I open the door and I’m like, ‘WOW.’ This is real. This is it. This is the Zac Brown Band right here’. That’s the first time we met and [Zac Brown] is like, ‘grab a guitar and join in.’”

This is Shawn’s first real taste of country living, but Shawn’s been a fan of the genre for years sharing that his first album was Shania Twain’s ‘Come On Over.’ “It was HUGE for me.”

Shawn also shares that he has another dream country collaboration and wants to collaborate with Hunter Hayes. “I've always been a massive, massive Hunter Hayes fan. "I Want Crazy” is one of my favorite pop-country fusions songs. It's so great to me, and I love playing it!”

Sounds like Shawn might be ready to widen his musical circle.
