Rest in peace, Whisper.
Queen Elizabeth's last beloved corgi has passed away. The long-reigning sovereign's companion reportedly died a week ago, though not much else is known at this time. Whisper was adopted by Queen Elizabeth after Bill Fenwick, the Queen's gatekeeper, passed away in 2016. Whisper, who passed away at the age of 12, then joined the Queen's family after her original owner passed away.
Cosmopolitan reports that Whisper's health was declining recently, though it's unknown what the adorable pup passed away from. "Over the last two years [Queen Elizabeth] had become especially close to Whisper who devotedly followed her from room to room throughout Buckingham Palace," according to the Daily Mail.
The Queen reportedly had “become very attached to the dog. Whisper was a friendly chap,” so, this must be a tough loss for the 92-year-old monarch. Whisper's passing comes shortly after the death of the Queen's other beloved corgi Willow, who passed away in April. According to People, Willow was the last in a line that was descended from the Queen's original pet corgi Susan.
Corgis have been a part of the Queen's life since she was a little girl. Her father, King George VI, adopted a corgi named Dookie in 1933. She was gifted her own, very first pet corgi, Susan, on her 18th birthday.
Despite being passionate about raising dogs, it's unlikely the Queen will adopt any new ones after the passing of Whisper. She's said she doesn't want to leave any young dogs behind one day.
Rest in peace, Whisper.
