Three young children were killed and a fourth child was seriously injured after a truck ignored the red stop sign on a school bus and struck them as they crossed the street on Tuesday (October 30) morning. Indiana State Police said that the three deceased children were siblings - two twin six-year-old boys and their nine-year-old sister. The injured child, who was not related to the others, was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities said that the driver remained at the scene and is being questioned. They did not say whether the truck was speeding or why the driver ignored the red flashing lights and stop sign on the bus.

There were no other students on the bus at the time of the accident.

Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation released the following statement following the tragedy:

"Our school corporation has suffered a tragedy this morning. We have learned of three student families and one student seriously injured and airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital as they were hit be a vehicle while boarding their bus.
