Valentina Cast As Angel In Fox's Live Version Of 'Rent'

Fox has announced the cast of the upcoming live version of Rent and, low and below, Valentina of Season 9 of RuPaul's Drag Race is set to portray the role of Angel.

As per an announcement on Monday (October 29), Valentine's role will see her follow Wilson Jermaine Heredia, who originated the character in the 1996 Broadway cast of the show and then reprised the role for the 2005 film movie. In case you don't know much about Rent, Angel is a gender queer street performer (and drag queen), who dies of complications from AIDS. Among the other stars in the forthcoming cast include Tinashe (Mimi), Roger (Brennin Hunt), Jordan Fisher (Mark), Vanessa Hudgens (Maureen), Brandon Victor Dixon, (Tom Collins) and Kiersey Clemons (Joanne). The original Rent director Michal Geif will return to oversee the stage direction of the production.

"I can finally share with you guys the amazing news!!! I will be playing the role of Angel in the live version of Rent on Fox," Valentina captioned a post of her announcement on Instagram. "I'm so honored to be a part of this amazing cast, to study this amazing special character and to be given the opportunity to sing, dance and act on live television. Thank you guys for your love and support that have sent me love and congratulations messages. Question is though, when do I get to try on the Dora the explorer wig!?"

Interestingly enough, the press release for the forthcoming production also confirmed that Valentina will "return to RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars," adding to the momentum that the fan favorite is set to be part of Season 4 of All Stars. Rent follows Fox's other live musicals,including 2016's Grease: Live and 2017's A Christmas Story Live!  Prepare yourself because the production airs live from Fox Studios in Los Angeles on Sunday (January 27).
