Authorities believe they have identified the second prisoner who participated in the brutal murder of mobster Whitey Bulger. They suspect that Paul J. DeCologero helped Fotios "Freddy" Geas and another man wheel Bulger from his jail cell to a part of the prison where they were hidden from security cameras.
The three men allegedly beat the mobster-turned-FBI informant to death, trying to cut out his eyes and tongue, likely because he was known for snitching.
DeCologero, who was a member of a North Shore organized crime group, has been serving a 25-year prison sentence since 2006 for racketeering and the conspiracy for his involvement in the ordered killing of a 19-year-old girl.
According to the Boston Globe, Geas and DeCologero had no connections until they met in prison. Authorities are unsure what motives DeCologero had for killing Bulger or how the prisoners knew that he would be transferred to the high-security prison.
Bulger was killed just 11 hours after he arrived at Hazelton federal penitentiary in West Virginia.
